A Small Town Gone.

Today, my heart is hurting. During Wednesday's storms in the south a small town, twenty minutes from mine, is left in crumbles. A small town nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, so peaceful and serene, now looks like Godzilla tore through. Many of you have never heard of Glade Spring, Virginia. To most it was a well known truck stop on Interstate 81 traveling to Tennessee or West Virginia. Today, that truck stop is gone. Houses are gone. The local Wendy's is gone. The small little town at Exit 29 is gone.

I have been looking at pictures and videos since Thursday morning of this community. They broke my heart and left me in complete amazement. Not a lot happens where I live. We don't have large cities with skyscrapers, we have small towns and front porches. We don't have hurricanes, earthquakes, or tsunamis. And, normally, we don't have tornados or 100 mph winds. We may get the occasional warning but most of us know that it is very unlikely. Thanks to our beautiful mountains and low valleys we don't have many weather problems. On Wednesday, God showed us that our small town can crumble, too.

Today, I drove up the interstate because I just had to see this for myself. I was delivering water and food for the local Red Cross.  I knew that pictures and videos wouldn't do this justice. As I crest the top of the hill and started down into the town of Glade, I soon became speechless. Tractor and trailers were tossed along the sides of the road like toy trucks in a child's playroom. Trees were laying on the ground like they never once stood tall. Houses were torn to pieces, exposing the family belongings inside.

Here are videos taken of the damage...

These are pictures I took today as I drove through...

Please pray for Glade Spring, Virginia. Please pray for the South.

On a lighter note...
I am proud to be an American today! I am so proud to have troops all over the world taking down the bad guys!

This weekend was a real life Disney fairytale...A prince married his princess and the bad man is dead!

You said that "God showed us that our small town can crumble, too"... and it's so sad but true. No one is exempt from troubles, pain, or suffering. It happens often and sometimes when we least expect it. The great thing though is we live in America! Bad things happen here, but great things do too. (:
